Biography

Henry R. Muñoz, III, is a designer of the American future, whether through advocacy and activism, investing, or philanthropy. Throughout his career, starting with his design, architecture and planning agency, Munoz & Co, one of Texas’s largest minority-owned businesses, Henry has designed urban cityscapes, parks, libraries, campuses, stadiums and transportation systems. He has designed political and coalition campaigns to magnify the political power of Latinos, including co-founding Latino Victory; through Momento Latino, TheDream.US he has founded and designed systems to push for social change and greater opportunity. As a cofounder of SOMOS, he has designed a health system to better serve the underserved and, now, is reimagining entertainment as the owner of the Hollywood studio Funny or Die. A lifelong leader in Democratic politics, Henry was born into Texas’s nascent labor movement and observed–and learned from–his father, who organized Tejano farmworkers into a potent political force. Later, Henry served his political mentor, Texas Governor Ann Richards, as her Transportation Secretary.

Acknowledging his seminal role in organizing Latino donors in 2012, Henry was appointed National Finance Chair of the DNC by President Obama in 2013, making history as the first Latino and openly gay American to hold that position in either political party. He held that position for six hears. Most recently, was elected as DNC Vice Chair in September 2022. Henry is the founder of the effort to create a national Latino museum on the Mall in Washington, D.C., which will be known as The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino, and currently serves as its chairman.
